Offended by a 14-foot white granite cross erected to honor the site of the second Santa Clara Mission, resident Andrew DeFaria decided to sue after years of “enduring unwelcome contact with this clear symbol of the Christian religion.”

Santa Clara is adding four more students to its list of Fulbright Scholarship recipients. Announced last month, three seniors and one alumna were offered grants to study and teach abroad during the upcoming academic year. Santa Clara is among the top producers of U.S. Fulbright scholars and students, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

May 1: A male student was reported as intoxicated and urinating in front of a campus resident’s room. CSS responded and escorted him back to his off-campus apartment on Campbell Avenue. CSS documented the behavior.

A man who was born before the Great Depression and served in World War II is in the midst of his fifth year participating in an on-campus triathlon. Willow Glen resident Bob Scheid biked up to campus to swim every week for 25 years and is on a team for Santa Clara’s Iron Bronco competition. He just celebrated his ninetieth birthday in March.

In a compelling turn of events, Santa Clara’s Associated Student Government announced Tuesday that the first round of voting for the presidency and vice presidency was too close to call and that the election would continue as a run-off.

At a town hall meeting on Monday, City of Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor and councilwoman Kathy Wanabe officially endorsed Democratic candidate Ro Khanna who is currently campaigning to represent California’s 17th District in Congress. According to Gillmor, this is the first time she has ever endorsed a candidate for higher office.

Apr. 22: A male campus resident was observed defiantly drinking a beer in a Swig Residence Hall elevator. He was identified and also found in possession of two bags of marijuana, paraphernalia and unmarked pills. CSS confiscated and disposed of the items.

Santa Clara students are demanding their money back after college party company I’m Shmacked raised over $30,000 for a concert advertised to be held near campus in February. Despite months of anticipation, the party hasn’t happened yet.

Apr. 13: A female student was reported intoxicated after consuming several shots of vodka and an ecstasy tablet. CSS, SCU EMS and SCFD responded. Paramedics transported her to O’Connor Hospital.

There was little disagreement among candidates at the Associated Student Government’s election debate last night. Three tickets for president and vice president spoke to approximately 30 members of the campus community.

Lauren Betschart, ASG Senate Chair and ASG VP of Finance, Lidia Diaz-Fong, Marketing Chair of ASG Public Relations Branch and LEAD scholar and Ray Whelan, Senator at large for Leavey School of Business and ACE leadership program member are all candidates for ASG President.

For the last year, students have used the beloved “Runner: Tasks on Campus” Facebook page to request food deliveries, phones, furniture, concert tickets and transportation. Now, with a recently developed app, Broncos will able to request these goods from the convenience of their mobile phones.
